Cats hold a special place in my heart. Growing up, I always had a cat, and I never understood why some people hated them. They taught me to respect boundaries, and that love and trust have to be earned. When you have gained their trust, they will love you unconditionally and be a perfect companion, while still maintaining their independence.
One fun fact I always like to bring up is that cats are believed to have domesticated themselves. While humans have domesticated other species for their resources, wildcats lived in close proximity to humans in order to access food through rodents and trash. These wildcats, because of their increased tolerance with humans, eventually became the house cats we know and love today. See more in this article.
